Dear Bonnie,

I am finally writing to you after my visit in late June. I wanted to thank you for the materials you gave me, the directions to the Doughty cemetery, and your helpfulness in general. After I left your farm, I followed your directions and made my way to the Doughty cemetery; I am glad it did not rain. Then I stopped back by to say thank you to Delores and ask for details on where the Leanne cemetery was. I visited my grandmother's grandmother's grave there (Martha Ann Doty, Davis' Wife and finally had a date of death.

I went the next day to the Library again and looked up the obituary for Martha Ann Doty. It was in the Cassville Democrat. On my grandmother's father's side, I traced down Blanche Truhitte who is still living at the magnolia manors Nursing Home near Purdy, and Imogene Hemphill in Purdy. I visited the Sparks Cemetery in Star and the Purdy Cemetery to find the Truhittes. They were Baptist preachers, by the way for several generations. I did stop by Baxter Springs to see if I could trace any connection with Martha Ann Baxter Doty, but no luck.

I dont know if you and Delores got together to send me the material in July on Martha Jane Baxter, Martha Ann Baxter Doty, and the Doty family; but, until I received it, I was stuck. I wrote a letter to Baxter Springs, to the Missouri State Historical Society. Mrs Estella Staton (Mrs Earl O. Staton) of the Baxter Springs Historical Museum writes, "The packet of information on Martha Baxter Doty line has been received & placed with our John J. Baxter families information. thank you very much. I scanned information thta we have on the Baxter line, but sure failed to find any connection with your information. Maybe your line is from a brother to John J. Baxter or cousin to him? A John Baxter attended a local high school and is pictured in an annual (1920's). [Not too likely] We have no other information on this John Baxter. He may be in your line & I am searching for any additional - anything - on this Baxter, but no success. But I'll remember if i find anything on him & let you know. Thanks again - Estella Staton".

I have tried to confirm the information in the Doty line to Edward Doty that Delores sent, and am including the latest I have.

I ran across a Marjie Juanita Doty Fausnault in San Angelo Texas who is probably descended from James Doty (Oct 18, 1808). I am including a copy of my letter to her for you, since I mention you as a possible source for more material on the Samuel Doty descendants. If you could send me a copy of the family sheets for Joseph (1804) , and Davis (if you have it), I would be greatly appreciative.

I have still not chosen a computer program for entering the material. So far I am just using a simple word processing program, and a scanner.

What do you think of the line to Edward Doty? I think I will find material on Jeremiah Doty (1740) and that his father was John (1706) and his father was Joseph (?) - but which Joseph? There are many in approximately the right time period, and John (1688) the son of Joseph(1651) the son of Edward (1598) doesn't seem to fit the bill. John (1709) the son of Ellis (1670) the son of Joseph(1651) the son of Edward (1598) seems more likely. But I am reasoning too far from the source, with too little information. I hope to see the Bowman files on the descendants of Edward Doty. Perhaps that will shed some light on it.

Thanks you for your help, and thank you for being a conscientious genealogist.

Sincerely,

Richard K. Collins

While I was writing this, I got a call from my father that his mother, Jewel Anna Truhitte Collins, a granddaughter of Martha Ann Doty - died Sunday evening about 9:30 Eastern. She has been in the hospital for several months off and on, so it was not unexpected, but sad to see. She was 90.
