Dear Pat,
Thank you for packaging up and send the two copies of the Cassville history that I bought when I was in Cassville. I am enclosing a check for three dollars to cover the shipping charges as you requested. I apologize for taking so long. Thanks for the nice card.
I am enclosing copies of some of the material I have gathered on Martha Jane Malicote and her daughter Martha Ann Baxter Doty. As you will see, Martha Jane was a midwife who lived near Jenkins MO in the 1800's. Martha Jane was married 6 times, her third marriage to John M. Baxter produced on child, Martha Ann. The story "She Rode the Trails" is about Martha Ann, with a brief mention of her mother, Martha Jane, at the beginning.
When I was there in June, I was lucky enough to run into Delores Rusche and Bonnie Ragain, both of Jenkins, who provided me with information on the Doty family. I visited Martha Ann and Davis Doty's grave in the Leanne cemetery, the Doty (Doughty) cemetery where Davis' family are buried, the Stark Cemetery where the Truhittes where my grandmother's grand- and great- grand parents on her father's side are buried. I visited Blanche Truhitte of Cassville, now at Magnolia Manor near Jenkins, and Imoge Truhitte in Purdy who had some geneaology on the Truhitte family.
I am writing to the Library in Cassville to find out where Martha Jane Baxter ---- King is buried, hopefully along with Jessee King, her last husband. I am sending a copy of my materials to Sen. Emory Melton. I think he might be interested in the two Martha's, and perhaps he might be able to tell me more about them or their families.
Sincerely,
Richard Collins
